We were excited to be involved in the development application for use of the slipways at the Whyalla Steelworks (previously used during ship building days) to permit ship destruction activities. This approval allowed McMahon Services to undertake the first of such activities for the destruction, scrapping and recycling of the decommissioned HMAS Success. The HMAS Success was the Royal Australian Navy’s longest serving ship, decommissioned in 2019 after 33 years of service. It is reported that some of the steel from the ship will be recycled through the Whyalla steelworks, which could also align with GFG Alliance’s GREENSTEEL strategy which focuses on creating scrap that can be recycled.” Environmental Projects also assisted McMahon Services to develop an Environmental Management Plan that was approved by relevant government agencies, as part of the approval.
